How can I help?

MEDICAL EMERGENCY FUND

Acres of Love, in terms of the admission policy, is uniquely geared up to welcome infants and children with emergency medical needs and special needs, such as Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other medical vulnerabilities.  Many infants and children admitted to Acres of Love in the past have arrived on the brink of death and have required immediate and urgent medical care. Acres of Love also provides infants and children living with HIV/AIDS, with the best possible medical care and therapy to ensure that they will have normal day-to-day living, with a  good quality of life. The medical emergency fund is strategic. It is vital for Acres of Love to have these financial reserves, in order to empower the board, social workers and management to make life saving decision as they arise.

EDUCATION FUND

Due to extreme poverty and disease, an ever increasing number of children with special and remedial needs are being entrusted and placed into the care of Acres of Love. As a direct result of malnutrition, neglect and previously unaddressed medical concerns, the new intakes at Acres of Love cannot always be placed in main stream schools.  The Acres of Love team, supported by a dedicated group of therapists and social workers, are committed to giving each child the education they require to succeed in life.  Some children need special medical equipment such as wheel chairs, as well as one or two years in a bridging school consisting of smaller sized class rooms and dedicated teachers, in order to learn a new language, heal emotionally and build confidence. Special needs education programs include school fees, uniforms, school supplies and educational games, mentoring and tutoring, and participation in extra-curricular and other educational activities.  It is our belief that each one of our children can be the future leaders of South Africa.

TREASURES OF LOVE

In almost every family, there’s a treasured recipe (or two), handed down for generations, special and secret and often requested but seldom shared with others. This book changes that. The proceeds from its sale go to benefit the children in South Africa, orphaned or abandoned and even, in some cases, infected by AIDS.

For the past year, a widely varied group of women - some professional business people, others homemakers, and a few somewhere in between - have worked diligently and ceaselessly to put together a project designed to earn funds to create and sustain houses for Acres of Love.  The result is a cookbook, hard-bound and beautifully designed, well-worded, and wonderfully photographed, compiling dozens of cherished, secret family recipes.

When you purchase Treasures of Love, you’ll help Acres of Love continue its benchmark level of care in South Africa by off-setting the costs needed to acquire and sustain residential homes, where children can be sheltered as a family, loved and nurtured by house parents whose purpose is to provide nourishment for their hearts, minds, spirits, and bodies. The Safari Sisters, one of many volunteer groups across the globe who make the Safari Sisters forever home at Acres of Love possible, have parted with their secret recipes, collected here in this book, for that reason. Nothing less could have compelled them to do so — because there’s nothing more that matters to them than love of family — wherever they are.

COFFEE WITH A PURPOSE

Hosting a “Coffee with a Purpose” gives local volunteers an opportunity to partner with Acres of Love in raising awareness within their own community.  These events give individuals/families a chance to impact the children of South Africa without having to leave the comfort of your own home.  The first step is to invite a small group of people you know well to attend an informal get-together at your residence. (Consider inviting an existing group such as a Bible study, book club, family member, etc.)  As host, you provide the coffee, the snacks and the atmosphere.  Once your guests arrive and have had time to mingle, one of the representatives from Acres of Love will present a video and discuss the crisis of AIDS in Africa, the solution pursued by Acres of Love, and opportunities your guests have to make a difference.  With the majority of time dedicated to casual question/answer and conversation, your friends and family will discover how they might partner with us to serve the children at Acres of Love. If hosting a “Coffee with a Purpose” sounds like something you’d like to do, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for further details.
