When we opened our Cape Town Region 800 miles from our existing Forever Families, we knew that we would need passionate local leadership to successfully launch our Forever Home model of care. Our HR Director since 2008, Carmin Harty quickly expanded her role to include our Cape Town Operations as well. This region is now home to six Acres of Love Forever Homes, with more planning to open in the coming year.
A hands-on, detail-oriented leader, Carmin has empowered our House Mommies with weekly developmental curriculum, healthy recipes, and excellent accountability. She has enabled our House Parents to seek active roles in therapy and in advocating for the various medical needs our children face. We’ve mentioned that Cape Town has the highest rate of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) in the world. Many of our children arrive with FAS in addition to developmental delays or other medical needs such as clubfeet, spina bifida, autism, extreme malnutrition, and visual impairments. Each Forever Home is focused on the daily care of our children, and Carmin ensures that our House Parents are well trained in the various medical conditions affecting their children.
We are incredibly grateful for Carmin’s passion and vision as she makes a lasting impact in the lives of our children. Under her leadership, our Cape Town Forever Families are surrounded by support, equipped with valuable training, and are truly thriving.
