As our children get older, we’re excited to explore opportunities for them to use their gifts to bless others. We started a new tutoring program this term with our upper secondary and university students. They travel to local Acres of Love Forever Family Homes to help our younger students with after-school homework, study prep, and re-teaching when needed. Not only do our younger children get important help from experienced students, but the tutoring also allows for one more layer of relationship support between our older and younger children. It also offers our older teens a way to earn pocket money as they serve others.
Nelson* is in grade 12 and excels in math. So when 10 year-old Bonga has an upcoming test, he’s able to call Nelson. Nelson comes over after school and help Bonga grasp the important concepts. But the beauty is that Bonga isn’t just learning math. He is also gaining a role model and mentor. Nelson understands Bonga in a way that most others won’t. Both boys were once orphaned. They both now call Acres of Love home, and are sons and brothers in a loving family. Their early experiences are similar, and this creates an important bond for our kids. We have seen a drastic increase in the children’s school marks, which is rewarding to both our students and our tutors!
